2018 Volkswagen Golf vs 2018 Honda Fit

Proudly Serving Leesburg, FL

The Volkswagen Golf debuted four decades ago. As the seventh generation compact vehicle, the Golf has made its way into an impressive lineup that only gets better with time. The constant evolvement and improvements that have been made throughout the decades have made the Golf a very prevalent selection for many car buyers, many of them being repeat buyers, as well as following in prior generations within their family. The Volkswagen Golf is recognized as an excellent choice for a fun car to drive.

The 2018 Volkswagen Golf is best compared to the 2018 Honda Fit. The Honda Fit is somewhat smaller than the Golf, but the two models have similarities that put them in the same category when making a buying decision. A side-by-side comparison shows how the two models differ in certain features.

Performance

When it comes to the engine performance of the 2018 Volkswagen Golf, you immediately notice that it offers more horsepower than the 2018 Honda Fit. The Golf has a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. The Fit has 130 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. The Golf also has an exceptional EPA mpg rating of 25 city and 34 highway. With a paired five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, the Golf has the right amount of boost needed for any desired performance. While the Fit does have a reasonably good drivetrain, it falls a bit short in the level of performance needed to match the Golf.

Technology

There have been some astounding advances with automotive technology, and Volkswagen has taken every opportunity to incorporate those advances into the Golf. The 2018 Golf has been redesigned with an interior that has a wide variety of technology, such as the 8-inch glass touchscreen display that provides high-resolution to navigate all of the features, including voice controls, audio streaming, media, phone and text messages. You're also able to include all of your favorite APPS for a personalized experience. The Golf comes with all of the latest technology for Bluetooth, and Smartphone and Android compatibility. The Honda Fit base model has a 5-inch LCD color screen with a portion of those features similar to the Golf, in addition to optional choices to enhance its technology.

Safety

There is a lot that goes into the safety features of the Golf to provide the highest level of protection for you and your passengers. The Golf has continually received high ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2018 model received a 5-star rating for overall safety. Every Golf includes the Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS), in addition to a rigid safety cage for maximum protection during collisions. Since it's hard to predict the possibility of vehicle collisions, Volkswagen has gone a step further and engineered an exceptional solution. The ICRS will automatically deploy each airbag, while simultaneously turning off the fuel pump, unlock each car door, and activate the hazard lights. The safety cage helps to absorb the impact and deflects it away from everyone in the 5-passenger vehicle, by signaling the front and rear crumple zones. The Honda Fit is equipped with safety features, such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, road departure warning and collision warning braking. This year, the Fit was also able to receive a 5-star rating from NHTSA.
